One of the things that fascinates me is the way that other companies market themselves. In many cases there is an almost Orwellian (George Orwell wrote the book 1984) use of doublespeak.
Here at Digital Leadership Associates www.social-experts.net we “eat our own dog food” or “drink out own champagne” which ever metaphor you want to use.
What do we mean?
We are a social company, what we mean by that is we believe that social is the biggest transformational technology of this century. It has to be. It’s already used across the enterprise, Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, Human Resources, as an email replacement, in Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain. Every department uses it, both internally and externally. The bad news is that people use it tactical, rather than strategically, the good news is that all employees voted with their feet and want social. Humans are, after all social beings and social media is a total natural, friction less way to communicate.
The world of sales and marketing has evolved, and we all need to as well. Which is why we all know Advertising no longer works, nobody looks at ads anymore, GDPR has pretty much killed off email marketing and cold calling. Cold calling is now seen as the last resort of a desperate company.
Which is why here at DLA we do what we say we do. We do what we coach and mentor to do. That is, we use social. We are our best case study. You want an ROI from social? No problem, you just have to do what we do. You would of course expect us to be our own case study surely?
Can Fitness Instructors only be Thin?
It’s an honest question. I have a personal trainer and he’s a bastion of what he tells me to do. He’s the thinnest, fittest, most flexible person I know. But that’s why I hire him. He sets the standard, that I aspire to.
So that’s where I end up puzzled.
The “Outbound” conference has just been launched on Social, surely if outbound worked they would have cold called me?
The social selling guru who loves Facebook ads! Let’s not forget that Advertising isn’t social, it’s 1930 interruption and broadcast. An advertising hoarding at a football match does not mean you are playing.
I recently laugh out-loud when somebody who goes on about “outbound” complained about an unsolicited approach on LinkedIn. An inmail on LinkedIn is a “cold call” after all, just a cold call on LinkedIn. When Outbound Gurus complain about outbound, maybe there has been a change. If you cannot stand the heat, get out the kitchen the saying says.
Also one of my employees has had unsolicited emails. 5 (at the time of writing) from a US based Social Selling company. You have to respect the tenacity, but this companies employees don’t know how to social sell. Now if you are going to hire a social selling company, surely they have to know how to social sell?
Can Fitness Instructors only be Thin?
You tell me!
