I know I sound like a broken record…but I’m going to say it again anyway.
When Tim and I founded DLA we knew that we could help change sales teams (and the wider desire to be social within organisations). We knew that the process of being successful on social was actually straightforward and, dare I say, quite simple.
It basically is three steps.
- you build yourself a compelling personal brand. This is not simply creating a list of your work achievements (as that’s dull) it’s writing about who you are as opposed to simply what you do. It needs to contain your personality so I can get a sense of what we might calk about and whether I like you…it helps to build trust, friendship and engagement.
- You grow your network. You connect with interesting, valuable, insightful people (not just those you wish to sell to) and you say hello to them. They then (you hope) have a look at your profile and think “what an interesting person, I’ll keep an eye on them”
- You publish valuable and insightful content frequently so that those people who thought “I’ll keep an eye…” see loads of good stuff coming from you.
And that’s it.
Some of those people will comment, like & share your content and those people you can have a conversation with and ask if you can tell them about this exciting thing you do (not to sell to them, just to tell them)…and they will usually say yes.
After you’ve told them they will know what you do and know that you’re really good at it and they will tell other people.
They always do.
They will also introduce you to people you want to meet.
What could be easier?
At DLA we are, not surprisingly, pretty good at this stuff…and you can be too.
