What Can the Baseball World Series Teach us About Social Selling?

If you didn’t know the Baseball World Series is where US Baseball teams compete with each for a cup. The ironic thing is that Baseball is generally only played by the US and a bit in Japan. That said, the World Series only has US teams taking part.

Now I’m not sure about you but at the Olympics, the football (soccer) World Cup and the Athletics World Cup teams from all over the world play against each other. It really is a World Series.

Even the Rugby World Cup; now Rugby isn’t played by many countries, by any country can apply to play. Same with the cricket World Cup. With the Cricket World Cup, Afghanistan put in a team.

So why is the World Series when it’s only played by US teams called the World Series?  Surely it should be the US Series?

Which reminds me, why does a company call itself global when it only is resident in the US? How does that work?

Of course, they can fly to anywhere in the world and enforce their American cookie cutter social selling view on your local business world. Of course, all delivered in English.

So what about localisations you might ask? What about use if WeChat in Asia or Xing in Germanic countries? What about a program that takes into account European GDPR regulations or the data regulations in Germany? What about the fact that there is little take up of Twitter in Asia and Australasia?  Well stuff you, as an American only Social Selling company you will get an American cookie cutter delivered in English and be thankful I guess?

There is an alternative!

How about global programs that are then delivered locally, by local people in local language? Taking into account of local customs, social networks and local ways of working. Use WeChat? no problem! use Xing? no problem. This is what our global clients requested of us here at Digital Leadership Associates (DLA) social-experts.net “we want the robust methodology that programmatic approach provides, but we want it delivered locally”. So that’s what we have built.

If you are a company with interests in North America, South America, Asia, Australia, Europe or the UK and Ireland then you won’t get an American cookie cutter, but local people. This will benefit you with better buy-in, mindset change based on your own locality and habit change based on local customs and psychology.

By the way, there is still opportunity for new resellers joining us on our journey and if you want a chat contact me (Tim Hughes) on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/timothyhughessocialselling/
