Digital Leadership Associates DLAignite.com has now been in business for 2 and half years and what we do is social selling. It’s better described as Social Transformation, but let’s stick with Social Selling for now. We invest all our money back into the pursuit of social selling best practice.

Also, as the only global social selling business we are able to share best practice around the world. When I say global, I mean global, as in, we have people all around the world. Not just people in the US doing “seagull management”. (Seagulls, fly in, squark a lot, drop a load of shit and fly out.) The problem with an American cookie cutter view on life, it works well in the US but does not work, once you get out of the US territory. What about Xing, WeChat, cultural and language sensitivities? Anyway, more on that another day.

From the get-go, we decided we needed to be global so we can share best practice around the world. This means taking techniques that work in Singapore and trying them in Europe and North America. Or taking what works in Germany and sharing that in Asia and the US.

It also means that our benchmark is not a US centric view of the world, but a global view of social selling best practice.

Like a software company, I guess, we know that it’s our future which depends on us re-investing in research and development (R&D). The only way for us to continue to be the market leader in Social Selling is to continue to lead and innovate. That’s what we do, we reinvest in the world of social, so our clients will always be at the forefront of revenue creation and competitive advantage.

As we have coached and transformed more and more companies we understand what is best practice, or put it another way. We know what works and what does not. More importantly we have seen social selling change. Partly as circumstance changes, for example the growth of mobile, but also how people buy. Buying online, is now a natural thing for all of us.

We often see people with LinkedIn Profile circa 2015, things have just moved on, a blog for another day.

One of the things we wanted to be able to do was benchmark people and we have cracked it.

First, of course, you need to be around long enough to have coached and transformed as many companies as you can so you can work out a datum. This is what “good looks like”.

We also have a mechanism to measure your current social selling capability. We can the plot the two. Where you are vs best practice, there is then a “delta”. The difference, or the ground you need to make up to be a true social seller!
